Key UF/IFAS Lawn Fertilizer Recommendations
- When to Fertilize: Start in late March or early April once the grass greens up naturally. In Central/North Florida, apply 2–3 times during the growing season (spring/summer). In South Florida, 3–4 applications may be used, avoiding the rainy season.
- Fertilizer Selection (N-P-K): Use a "balanced" fertilizer with a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of Nitrogen (N) to Potassium (K). Examples include 15-0-15, 16-0-8, or 24-0-11.

- Environmental Protection: Keep fertilizer 10–15 feet away from waterways and storm drains. Sweep any fertilizer granules off impervious surfaces (driveways/sidewalks) back onto the turf.
- Summer Restrictions: Many Florida municipalities have fertilizer ordinances that ban or restrict nitrogen and phosphorus application from June 1 to Sept. 30.

To apply 1 lb. of Nitrogen using a 15-0-15 bag:
- Divide 100 by the first number (100÷15=6.7100 divided by 15 equals 6.7 ----- 100÷15=6.7).
- Apply 6.7 lbs. of fertilizer per 1,000 sq. ft. of lawn
