According to UF/IFAS Extension, roses require a fertilizer with an NPK ratio

between 3-2-2 and 3-1-3, featuring micronutrients and at least 50% slow-release nitrogen for optimal growth. A balanced, general-purpose fertilizer like 10-10-10 or a specific rose food (often 6-12-6 or similar) is ideal for promoting both foliage and blooms.

Key Recommendations & Application:

• Best NPK Ratios: 3-2-2, 3-1-3, or 10-10-10 (standardized, balanced formulas).
• Components: Choose fertilizers containing Magnesium, Iron, and other necessary micronutrients.
• Application Frequency: In Florida, fertilize monthly from mid-February to mid-November.
• Amount: Use approximately 1 cup of fertilizer per bush monthly, or 12 one-half cup bi-monthly; adjust lower for smaller plants.
• Placement: Apply around the drip line of the plant, avoiding direct contact with the stem to prevent burning.
• Slow-Release: Slow-release formulas are preferred to prevent nutrients from washing away during heavy rain.

Using a dedicated rose food that includes iron and magnesium helps prevent common nutrient deficiencies that lead to yellowing leaves or weak stems.
